Antique Brass Sewing Bird ClampA. Gerould Patent * Circa 1850s
This brass antique sewing bird clamp
is one of the rarer ones. The bird has lovely top and bottom feathered details and is marked under the tail "A. Gerould & Co. Patent".
The design was patented by Allen Gerould in Middletown, CT, on Aug. 2 1853. (Design Patent No. 589)
The front has a little velvet pin cushion or emery.
It measures about 4 7/8" tall with the screw half way in (as shown). The spring is strong and the screw holds well all along the length. The condition is excellent with no dents or loss and the brass has a nice, original patina.
